Welcome to the Drums Aloud Project
This project has been brought about by the Caslon Community Partnership, which had an application for
a £9,500 grant awarded in July 2007 by
Awards for All. As a result, the organisers behind
this project are able to bring African djembe & sabar drumming to the Black Country &
Birmingham, but primarily centred around Halesowen in the West Midlands.
This funding will help us provide African djembe & sabar drumming & percussion
classes and allows us to subsidise the payment of
teachers for up to 39 weeks, covers venue hire costs, publicity costs
and allows us to provide sufficient instruments, for a class of at
least 18 people. These include djembes, dunduns, sabars and a range of other percussion instruments.
Publicity for the October classes was provided by Hamana
Bjémakan , who performed in Halesowen town centre on the morning of Saturday September
22nd. The performance was of West African rhythms on djembe, dundun with song and dance.
